Posidonia: from science to pop culture
In February 2025, UNESCO-IOC hosted the webinar "Posidonia: from science to pop culture" exploring the powerful intersection of art, culture, and science to raise awareness and drive action for the conservation of Posidonia oceanica meadows in the Mediterranean.
The title highlights efforts to shift the public perception of Posidonia from a lesser-known "seaweed" to a recognized "lung of the Mediterranean" that provides vital ecosystem services, which requires innovative ways to safeguard its critical underwater habitats.
The webinar was heldas part of the Save the Wave project in collaboration with E.ON together with experts like Giovanni Chimienti from the University of Bari, Benoit Cajelot from FUGRO, Mauro Randone from WWF Mediterranean, Marcial Bardolet from the Government of Balearic Islands, Xavi Bové from Xavi Bové Design Studio, Edoardo Brodasca from Posidonia Green Project.
